The Two Great Lies

The Two Great Lies

Who are we?

According to Darwin’s theory of evolution, we are not created in God’s image. We are the same as the animals. And yet the bible teaches we are made up of earth and of God. All things and creatures that He created He spoke into being with His voice except for man, both male and female. Instead, He took the dust of the planet He created for us and blew His own divine breath into it and we were formed. We are of earth and of heaven. Earthly and spiritual beings.

There are two lies that the enemy of our soul brings to us. Lies he taunts us with to get our attention. To get our agreement with his evil plans for our future. To get us speaking his prophecies over our lives.

Well, maybe there are three great lies. When I listen to any one of them, that’s all it takes for the ground beneath my feet to shake and I am undone.

The Two Great Lies

Satan has never really changed his story. From the beginning, he told lies in the garden. To Jesus, he spoke the lies. To us, he still whispers the same evil words that are not true.

He lies about who we are and he lies about who God is. If we do not know or understand that God is good and all His thoughts for us are good, that His intentions are always to give us a future, a hope, good gifts and a life abundant, then we do not trust His motives or heart toward us. Then we stand at the base of the mountain in the wilderness in fear of His awesome power and in doubt of His love for us. We never draw close to Him. We send another, like Moses, to go and find the word from the mouth of God for us.

The next lie the enemy tells us is about ourselves. That we are not important. That we have no value. We are worms. If we believe that lie, we will never understand the power and authority Jesus placed in our hands at His resurrection and ascension when He said, “Greater things than these will you do.” We will never stand on the earth in faith declaring to creation the words from the mouth of God that cast mountains into the sea, create rivers in the desert, and bring life to the dead.

The third lie is really connected to the second one, in that if I do not understand my own value and worth to God. If I do not see that He died because He would not sacrifice His ultimate dream of having fellowship with me and you. If I don’t catch a glimpse of the truth that our lives mattered more to Him than the death of His only, beloved, Son, then I will not only live feeling insignificant, I will see all others as insignificant as well. I won’t seek and pursue unity. I will be satisfied with division, which is the goal of the destroyer because Satan knows the day we understand who God is and who we are and gather together to speak, to pray, to love in unity that is the day he is done. He has no authority only ugly power that has to cease at the authority in the name Jesus because of the shed blood of Jesus, the authority in the Word of God, and in the power released from unity in worship and prayer. People who believe in their God, who understand their position in Christ and who gather united to pray and worship are an unstoppable force for expressing in the earth the life of God.

The Strong Deception

Satan would have us believe that he is bigger than the God who created him. But he lies. Over and over again. I think if we would stop whenever we feel discouraged and seek the source of our feelings, we would find they rest in a belief that we are not good enough and don’t deserve God to answer our prayers or we didn’t do things right so of course God won’t give good gifts. That is what I consider a strong deception…that I have no intrinsic worth connected to a belief that God is not a good Father to me. Then comes the thought that although He is good to others, He doesn’t really care about me as much…those are lies. He tempted Eve with the lie that perhaps God was not really good because He was withholding something beneficial to her. We all know the end of that story.

Jesus was faced with the same lies…”If you are the SON of God,” questioning Jesus’ identity, “command these stones.” Taunting Him to prove His authority by speaking words of power without hearing from the Father. Remember, Jesus always said He only did what He heard from the Father. The enemy was asking Jesus to believe a lie about His sonship and to speak words of power without authority given from the Father. To trust in himself to get what He needed, without a Word from the Father.

Satan’s last temptation was focussed on God, If you are the Son of GOD then surely He will catch you if you cast yourself off the cliff, which is really questioning God’s goodness. God’s nature.

The Power of Truth

Perhaps I have wandered a bit, but I see this in my life when I am discouraged and thoughts come that I will go to my grave without fulfilling any of my potential or dreams. When I am confused and struggling to have faith that all my needs will be met. As I move about the land of people awkwardly and insecure. These are the times I stop and search to find the lie that fuels my discontent. It is always either I have forgotten who my Father is or I have forgotten who I am.

For me, the answer is to get my Power Prayer Journal out and read out loud all the Bible verses I’ve written on who I am in Christ. Who I am to God. How He delights in me. That is where my peace, faith and hope come from and I feel a well of strength rise up to stand strong for the truth God’s growing in me. God is truly good. That’s all He can be because His nature is love. You are His delight. He gave His heart to you and His best love for you. You are His Wildest Dream. Believe it.
